How to add captions to YouTube Shorts
Captions help a short video communicate its message when the viewer is watching silently. Prepare a readable captioned version in Kliption, then check it in your YouTube upload preview.
1. Choose the moment and canvas
Upload a short video for captions or select a moment from a longer recording with Auto Clips. Set a vertical 9:16 canvas if that is the version you intend to publish. Inspect the crop for faces, objects, and any text already present in the recording.
2. Correct and style the captions
Listen through each line. Fix names and missing words before choosing a style. Use short cues, readable contrast, and a font that supports the recording’s language. Move captions to an area where they do not hide the subject or important on-screen information. Replay fast speech to see whether each cue remains readable.
3. Export and check the upload
Export a video with the intended captions, then inspect the downloaded file on a phone-sized screen. Upload it through YouTube and review the publishing preview. If you also provide a separate subtitle track through a compatible workflow, check that it does not create unwanted duplicated text for viewers.
Before you publish
- Opening words appear at the right time.
- Framing and captions work together.
- No cue is too dense to read.
- The final publishing preview matches your intention.
